LHN Snow White

I finished the project that I started on for the new year on January 1st. It is Snow White by Little House Needleworks. I stitched it on 30 ct Weeks Dye Works Blue Jeans linen with Crescent Colours Belle Soie silk floss in the color of Icing. I found I needed my Ott light and also the light of day to see the "holes" in this linen to stitch it....I must be getting older or need new glasses! HA! I am so happy with how it turned out!

Works In Progress

I have a few Works In Progress (WIPs) that I want to concentrate on stitching this year. I took some pictures of them so hopefully I can see some progress on each one next month. The first one is my January 1st new start, LHN Snow White. I am stitching it on 30 ct WDW blue jeans linen with the recommended CC Icing silk.

The 2nd picture is my long forgotten LHN Family Sampler. I have a lot of color changes I'm putting into this one and really look forward to stitching on it this year.

The 3rd picture is of a WIP from a couple years ago! ACK! It is Drawn Thread's Sampler Gameboard. I'm stitching it using Vikki Clayton silks. I love this project but all the color changes caused it to go onto the back burner. I hope to "warm" it up this year.

And the last picture is a WIP that I've worked on off and on for a few years. It's Victoria Sampler's Christmas Village. It is so pretty in person!

Pledge of Allegiance

I started this Pledge of Allegiance this past summer and had it 2/3 stitched. I picked it up yesterday and finished it today. It's from Designs by Lisa and I stitched it on the recommended 32 ct Ocean Kiss linen. I decided to leave the border off and changed the colors. The colors I used were Crescent Colours Wavy Navy, Apple Fritter and Toasted Marshmallow and GAST Wrought Iron for the lettering.

I finished this little ornament for a blue exchange for a yahoo group I belong to. It's from La-D-Da in the JCS 2010 Christmas ornament magazine. It's called 'Tis Red but I stitched it in blue. I used Vikki Clayton Blueberry Soup silk floss and stitched it on a piece of Sassy's 14 ct tan marble aida. Today I'm starting LHN Snow White for my Jan. 1st piece.

Ragged Old Flag

My brother-in-law lost his father a couple of months ago and I wanted to stitch something special for him and my sister. My BIL's father used to recite Johnny Cash's "Ragged Old Flag" for different events. I took the Blackbird Design Grand Old Flag and adjusted the words to say Ragged Old Flag. I'm taking it in to be framed next week. This is a good piece to end 2011 with. I have my Jan 1st project picked out to start after midnight tonight.

Becca's Peace Bookmark

I stitched this bookmark for my niece. Today is her 16th birthday and a couple months ago she lost her grandfather. The peace sign was something that her and her grandpa both loved. I designed it to fit on a pre-made neon green bookmark and used Threadworx Bradley's Balloons to stitch it. Ironically Bradley is my niece's dad who just lost his father. My niece reads a lot so I hope this brings a smile to her face everytime she sees it.

Prairie Schooler Reindeer

I finished up some models so am taking this chance to finish up a couple of things. This is one of the reindeer ornaments from the Prairie Schooler Christmas Eve leaflet. It is stitched on a gray-blue 16 ct aida and is for a deer exchange block for a yahoo group I belong to.

Country Cottage Needleworks February Cottage

I am having such a fantastic time stitching the Country Cottage Needleworks models for the Cottage of the Month. This is the February one that was recently released. I cannot recommend this series enough! They are a great size, quick to stitch, and they have houses! Need I say more? :)

Tis the season for ornament exchanges

The top picture is an ornament I stitched for my friend Rita. It's SamSarah's Winter Love from the JCS ornament edition 2007. I changed the colors in the scarf to scarlet and gray for my fellow Ohio State alumni! The 2nd picture is from Prairie Schooler called Snowy Night and it's from the JCS ornament edition 2008. This was a surprise gift "just because" another wonderful friend who really loves snow!

This last picture is the best of all! I received this from my friend Julie. It is a Mary Garry piece and in my favorite colors!!! She attached it to a painted wood frame. After Christmas I will display it in an easle all winter!! I just LOVE it!!

Ornament Exchange

Watermelon quote

A friend of mine loves this quote and has her entire kitchen decorated in watermelons. This design was a collaberation of creative stitchers! A friend charted out the quote for me and another friend came up with the idea to stitch the words "watermelon" in the colors of a watermelon. I got the watermelon slices across the bottom from a fantastic designer and friend Diane Williams from her chart Watermelon (Little House Needleworks.) All I did was put it together and stitch it up!!!

I stitched another LHN ornament and just love it! I changed some colors in this one. It's stitched on the recommended 30 ct WDW straw linen. I used blues instead of greens so it would match my Christmas colors. I used Carrie's Creation Threads Cobalt Blue for the dark blue and Blue Dreams for the lighter blue. The green I used was DMC 934. I also added a JABCo snowflake button. This is one of my favorites so far!!

The colors are the perfect cottage colors and like Snowflake Serenade parts of this could be stitched and finished into "smalls". It's stitched on 28 ct lambswool linen.

I really enjoyed stitching Liberty & Justice this week. I changed a few colors....used DMC 823 for the blue, 3051 & 3052 for the greens and used 823 for the running stitch around the outer edge. I've left it in my q-snap for now with my patriotic q-snap cover!

I loved the original colors for this design with the red house but since my Christmas decorating is done in shades of blue I wanted this to match. I stitched this on the recommended 30 count Northern Cross linen. I used all the recommended DMC colors except changed the red to CC Wavy Navy and the white (except for the snow) to GAST Old Blue Paint.

I finished stitching LHN's Winter Sheep ornament. I chose to use the suggestion from the pattern to switch the red to blue and the cardinal button to a bluebird button. I used all recommended floss colors except the blue is Carrie's Creation Antique Slate floss. My Christmas decoration colors are in shades of blue so I love how this turned out. It's stitched on 30 ct WDW Straw linen.

I stitched up this little cutie Snowy Pines by Little House Needleworks. I fell behind stitching this ornament set last year and my goal is to finish the 2010 LHN ornaments by the end of 2011. I stitched 4 of the chocolates and a modified border from Little House Needleworks Chocolate Box. Stitching this sure made me crave chocolate! This is for an exchange on one of my yahoo cross stitching groups and we stitch 6" x 6" blocks so I used part of the design and adapted it to work. I don't want to part with it but I guess the best blocks are the ones you want to keep for yourself. This is stitched with the recommended floss on 28 ct lambswool linen.

Birds of a Feather Love

My first finish for 2011 is a small one but was a fun one! I did a SAL with a couple of good friends. I stitched this on 32 ct summer khaki linen with some color changes. This is the first BOAF pattern that I've stitched and of course I only really discovered them after the charts went out of print. I have a couple other of their designs but wish I had more of their Virtues like this one was. If anyone is willing to let me borrow their hard copy of BOAF Honesty, Patience, or Loyalty I would promise to stitch quickly and return with a small gift.

Danielle's Tree Ornament

Danielle's Tree Ornament by M Designs has been a UFO (unfinished object) for a couple of years now. When turned on it's side you can see that it spells out my daughter's name DANIELLE. I actually pulled it out and finished the stitching and beading this month. She is quite excited about me finally finishing it! She picked out everything from the fabric, floss, and beads, to the pink heart on top. This is stitched over 1 on Sassy's Fabbys 25 ct Valentine Pink lugana with hand dyed silk from Vikki Clayton called Enchantress. I used frosted Mill Hill Beads (#62037) and it's topped with a Mill Hill pink heart Glass Treasure (#12100).

Lizzie Kate Snow Zone

I stitched Snow Zone from Lizzie Kate Tiny Tidings XII. I used both DMC and WDW floss on the recommended 32 ct natural Belfast linen. Instead of stitching the floating snowflakes I added 2 JABCO snowflake buttons to it. I used the pompom for the hat from the accessory kit and actually also used the Stitch-A-Gift pillow it is pictured in. This is going to be a Christmas present for my mom. And sadly yes the snow in the background of this picture outside my window is real.

I was able to stitch the model for Country Cottage Needlework's Snowflake Serenade. This is one of my all time favorite designs! I love how you could stitch just one of the sections for a "small" or the entire piece as designed. The colors are the same that I use to decorate for Christmas and winter in my home so this will definitely need to be stitched again....this time for me!

It's stitched on 28 ct lambswool linen with WDW Ivy & Mocha and the rest in DMC floss.

LHN Pumpkin Hollow Farms

I stitched Pumpkin Hollow Farms from Little House Needleworks. What an absolute joy it was to stitch! I added a few changes to customize it for me. I changed the house to WDW Lancaster Red to match the house my grandma always lived in. I used WDW Kohl for the roof. The pumpkins were changed to GAST Fragrant Cloves and I used Antique Gold from Carrie's Creations Threads in place of GAST Brandy. I used the same red from the house for the flowers below. I added a JABCo blackbird button over the house a gold maple leaf button under the tree. It's stitched on 32 ct Caramel Creme belfast linen from Sassy's Fabbys. I want to frame this in a black frame like the original model.

Trilogy's Autum Spots!

I stitched up Trilogy's Autumn Spots as a stitch-a-long for the BC/HIH/Trilogy yahoo group. I stitched mine on the recommended 32 ct Summer Khaki belfast linen with most of the recommended floss. I added an acorn JABCo button in place of the recommended charm. This is my first of the seasonal spots but hopefully not my last.

CCN Christmas Carols

LHN He's A Flake

I stitched He's a Flake by Little House Needleworks on the recommended 30 count Dove Linen from Weeks Dye Works. I made a few changes including adding a JABCo snowflake button in place of one of the stitched snowflakes. I changed the green from CC Spinach to Carrie's Creation Frosty Pine. I also changed the red from DMC 918 to DMC 3777.

Trilogy Friendship

I stitched Trilogy's Friendship as a SAL on the Bent Creek/Heart in Hand/Trilogy yahoo group. I stitched mine on R& R 30 ct Korty's Special Blend linen and changed some of the browns in the design to coordinate better with the fabric. Mostly I used the recommended WDW and GAST floss. I added a heart charm in place of the recommended bird charm. I haven't decided yet if this will be a gift for someone or if I'll actually keep this one!

LHN The Family Sampler

I had the great honor of stitching the model for Little House Needleworks The Family Sampler. After having stitched this once I can honestly say that I cannot wait to stitch it again for myself too! In fact it was quite the struggle sending it back to Diane and not keeping it! HA! I'm really looking forward to personalizing it for my family.

I was able to stitch the model for Country Cottage Needleworks Little Miss Muffet. I think this was the first spider I've ever stitched! The stitched spiders are certainly a lot cuter than the real ones! This picture just cannot do the design justice. The nursery rhymes series that Nikki is designing is so cute and delicate in person! I highly recommend them!!!!

I just finished something for me! I stitched Little House Needleworks' Battle Hymn of the Republic on Sassy's 32 ct Tan Temptation linen. I used most of the recommended floss but did make 1 change. In place of DMC 924 and DMC 3768 I used DMC 336. I wanted just a little bit brighter blue color to match my americana home decor.

Five Golden Rings

I did the model stitching for the letter Y for Nora Corbett last Sept and can finally show it. This picture was taken before the beads in her hands were added because that part wasn't graphed on my chart and was added later. It was a fun and quick stitch.

I finished the Little House Needleworks Pear Tree ornament! I finished it a few weeks ago but didn't get around to posting it. Better late than never I guess! HA! :) I had gold beads picked out to add to this and decided after the stitching was done that I really liked it just like it was so decided not to add the beads. I stitched this on the recommended 32 ct Vintage Light Exampler fabric with the recommended floss. I'm still stitching on a beautiful model so don't have much else to post! :) ........yet...........

I finished Midnight Stitching's Starstruck (from the Heartstruck leaflet) as my last project for 2009. You can see all of the wonderful Midnight Stitching Designs on Hoffman. This is for a patriotic block exchange for one of my yahoo stitching groups. I am excited to have 3 of the 6 blocks stitched already for 2010. I think it's the only way for me to be in the exchanges........if I stitch them ahead! LOL! :) I stitched this on Sassy's 28 ct Blue Pearl lugana and used a couple Victorian Motto Sampler Shoppe hand dyed floss. The red is Christmas Red and the blue is Azure. I just used DMC and GAST Straw Bonnet for the rest. I want to keep this block for myself!! Guess those are the best kind of blocks for an exchange. :) Happy New Year's Eve!

Pinkeep finished

I put it off long enough and finally finished the present for my mom for Christmas. I made the LHN Always & Forever into a pinkeep because that's about the extent of my finishing abilities! LOL! The fabric on the back is a perfect match to the dark purple floss used on the front. I just used a black ribbon and black pins for the pinkeep. Merry Christmas Mom! :)

LHN Fa-La-La

I'm doing a Stitch-A-Long for the new Little House Needleworks ornaments. This is the first one called Fa-La-La. I stitched it on the recommended 30 ct Cappucino linen from Weeks Dye Works. I stitched it with the recommended floss except for the girl on the left. I used DMC 823 for her dress. For the beads I used Mill Hill 03049. I stitched just a straight mouth for them in place of the french knot.

Teddy Bear Block

LHN Always and Forever

I stitched Always and Forever from Little House Needleworks for my mom for Christmas. My parents just celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on Nov. 15 so I thought this was perfect. It's stitched on Sassy's 36 ct Frosted Cafe linen with Elegant Eggplant Belle Soie silk. Purple is actually my mom and my dad's favorite color. I have some dark purple fabric I'm going to use on the back and finish it as a pinkeep.

One of the yahoo groups I belong to (StitchersTimeOut) has a block exchange. I just finished the L*K coffee block for the Dec exchange and figured I should get a head start on some blocks for 2010. The January block is a "green block". I debated stitching a Christmas themed one then came across this freebie in my stash and thought it would be perfect. It's a freebie from The Sunflower Seed from 2006. I stitched in on a waterlily linen (fabric is just 6" x 6") using just 2 colors of DMC. Now I need to get back to stitching on the Christmas gift for my mom! HA! :)

I just stitched Country Cottage Needleworks Daisy Sampler. It's going to be a present for my mom for her birthday this month. I stitched it on 32 ct Jobelan Water Lily with the recommended floss colors. The fabric is prettier than I can get my scanner to capture but you get the idea. I hope to finish it up as a pinkeep.

I enjoyed model stitching The Cafe from Country Cottage Needleworks. I really like the color palette Nikki chose for it. I think it would be so neat to have an entire wall full of Nikki's "shops" or stitched as a neighborhood. I'm so glad she has a couple coffee cups on the table so I can have a seat and enjoy some coffee! : )

I had the honor of stitching a block on my friend Kim's round robin. Her RR is the LHN Dear Diary Sampler of Virtues and this chart is was the one from Abigail Winslow called patience. Ironically I was busy stitching some models at the time I had Kim's RR and she needed plenty of patience with me because it took me awhile to get it stitched. Thanks Kim!

LHN Be True

I finally have a finish I can show! I have just finished stitching 4 models back to back. I'll show those only after they have been released. But I do have something to show now!!! This is Be True from Little House Needleworks. I stitched it on the recommended 32 ct natural raw linen with DMC floss. I did make a couple of changes though. I made most of the hearts in the darker DMC color and only one of the hearts in the lighter color. I also changed the blue from DMC 502 to DMC 3750 so it would match my color scheme better. I just love this quote!

Present for my sister's birthday

I stitched Lizzie Kate's Pie for my sister for her birthday present. I used the fabric and buttons included with the kit. It's tucked inside a Stitch-A-Gift tuck....my favorite way of "finishing"! LOL! :) The chart called for the entire bottom to be filled in with the same color floss used for the glass dome over the pie. I didn't think it added anything to the design so just left it. :)

I absolutely LOVE how beautiful this is in person! I stitched it on Sassy's 28 ct Sugared Coffee lugana with all the recommended floss except I used plain DMC white. I added the JABC buttons to it also. This is a Christmas present for my mom. I'm going to have a very hard time parting with it though! :) I guess those are the best gifts.

Charland Designs Believe ornament

I did it! Early even! I'm in a year long SAL to stitch 1 ornament a month from mostly the JCS ornament magazines. I have been getting my ornament done every month this year on the last day (or close to it) of the month. Well not this month! :) I had high hopes of stitching this huge ornament for Dec that was mostly solid stitching when I was flipping through the 2006 JCS ornament issue and saw this little one in the chart section. Of course I changed the colors to match my Christmas colors. :) I love it! It's Charland Designs Believe ornament stitched on Sassy's 16 ct cape cod blue aida with Carrie's Cobalt blue and DMC B5200. I'm not stitching the snowflakes that would end up on the back of the ornament. I'm thinking a really pretty blue snowflake fabric would be just as pretty! :)

My Mark Be Merry

I finished my Nov ornament a few minutes into Dec but since today is my birthday (Dec 1) I felt the need to stay up to ring in my birthday. :) This ornament is from My Mark designs (thank you Monique!!!) in the JCS 2008 ornament issue. My very first pinkeep

Anyone who knows me knows that I'm not a "finisher". Sure I finish stitching on lots of projects but to actually finish the project into something.....well that's another story. This week I've really wanted to try to finish some stitching into a pinkeep. There are a lot of great finishing websites and I have some great friends who have explained to me how they make pinkeeps. I figured it wouldn't hurt to give it a try. Here's what I came up with. :) I will definitely finish some more stitching (that's hiding away in a drawer! GASP!!) this way. Maybe even some Christmas presents! We'll see!

The over one stitching always takes longer than the over two but I'm happy with the results and think it was worth it. :) It's stitched on Sassy's 32 ct Cafe Au Lait with all but one of the recommended floss colors.

I stitched up my ornie for July. It's from the 07 JCS ornament magazine and is from Designs by Cathy Jean (from Victoria Sampler). I stitched it on the recommended dirty linen with the recommended overdyed floss. The colors are muted and very pretty except those darn branches gave me fits! They were so hard to keep track of and it's a VERY good thing it wasn't stitched on aida! I had to make it up as I went in some spots but I think it still turned out ok. :)
